Yard Person & Equipment Preparation Operative

Role Purpose

To ensure all used machines, attachments and equipment are prepared, presented and stored to the highest standards prior to customer collection or delivery.

The role is responsible for maintaining the appearance, safety and organisation of the yard whilst supporting used equipment preparation, machine inspections, and customer service activities.

The postholder plays a key role in ensuring Holt JCB used equipment leaves the depot in a clean and professionally presented condition.

Key Responsibilities

Used Machine Preparation & Presentation

Take responsibility for the preparation and presentation of used machines prior to customer collection or delivery.

This will include:

• Wash, clean and prepare machines to company presentation standard.
• Clean machine exteriors, undercarriages, tracks, wheels and access platform.
• Valet machine cabs and operator environments
• Remove old customer markings and ensure correct company branding is applied.
• Prepare machines for customer collection, demonstration or delivery
• Ensure machines are professionally presented and customer-ready, at all times.
• Verify attachments supplied with machines are present and correctly identified

Inspection & Quality Assurance

• Carryout basic visual inspections of equipment during preparation activities.
• Identify and report: Damage, Fluid leaks, Missingcomponents, Excessive wear, Damaged glass, mirrors and lighting, Tyre and trackconcerns, Operator cab defects, Missing documentation.
• Escalate defects through the appropriate maintenance process.
• Complete final readiness checks before machine release.
• Ensure machines meet set standards

Yard Operations

• Maintain a clean, safe and organised yard environment
• Manage the safe movement of machines, attachments & equipment within depot grounds.
• Ensure equipment is parked, stored and displayed in accordance with depot procedures.
• Conduct a daily visual inspections of yard areas and report hazards.
• Maintain clear access routes, loading zones and storage areas.
• Support site housekeeping and environmental standard

Parts Support

• Assist the Parts Department during operational peaks.
• Load and unload vehicles safely.
• Recieve incoming deliveries.
• Assist with machine attachments and component movements.
• Support inventory storage and organisation.
• Operate mechanical handling equipment where authorised.
• Maintain clean dispatch and storage facilities.

Health, Safety & Environmental Responsibilities

• Comply with all company Health & Safety policies.
• Wear required PPE at all times.
• Ensure cleaning products and materials are stored safely.
• Support safe lifting and mechanical handling processes.
• Maintain safe working practices across the depot.
• Contribute to environmental and waste management initiatives.

Knowledge & Experience

• Full UK Driving Licence (Essential)
• Experience working in an operational yard, workshop or industrial environment. (Preferred)
• Understanding of safe equipment handling practices. (Preferred)
• Basic mechanical awareness. (Preferred)
• Abilityto identify visible equipment defects. (Essential)
• Good organisational skills. (Essential)
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team. (Essential)
• Forklift licence. (Desirable)
• Telehandleror plant equipment operating experience. (Desirable)
